<h2>Field Intern Position</h2>OverviewThe field intern works to deliver the campaign’s message to the public through voter contact and track all voter and volunteer activity through VoteBuilder. As the campaign grows, they use the data from this voter contact to develop a detailed strategy to reach the public and gain more support. This entails door to door canvassing and phone contact. They cultivate a relationship between voters and the campaign. They work to engage voters, groups and committees. A field intern will manage field organizers&nbsp; and volunteer leaders responsible for segments of their district. They will create canvassing events and phonebanking opportunities, and may also coordinate voter registration drives. They design and coordinate a GOTV effort alongside the campaign manager to maximize efficiency in the final stretch of the campaign.&nbsp; A field intern must be highly organized and capable of tracking interactions and analyzing large amounts of data in VoteBuilder. The field team may be the only interaction a voter has with the campaign and must be effectively motivated and managed by the field intern.&nbsp; Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Create opportunities for the campaign to contact voters</li><li>Track all voter contact and volunteer activity in Votebuilder</li><li>Manage all volunteer efforts for doorknocking and phonebanking </li></ul>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities<ul><li>Must have own reliable transportation</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively, respectfully, and diplomatically with people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels</li><li>Strong organizational skills, including the ability to keep multiple projects on track at the same time</li><li>Working knowledge of Votebuilder</li><li>Preference given to candidates for the position with previous knowledge of the district </li></ul>The Melville Committee will work with successful applicants to obtain academic credit. <h2>Effective government starts with listening</h2>Tom Melville is running for State Representative in the 9th Norfolk District because he believes effective government starts with listening, decency, and a focus on the real challenges facing families every day. He's committed to being a responsive, pro-democracy legislator who works seriously on healthcare, education, housing, civil rights, and climate. Tom has spent his career solving complex problems, building consensus, and showing up when it matters, and he is ready to bring that approach to Beacon Hill.Tom is a graduate of Boston University and Boston College Law School. He's a licensed attorney in Massachusetts.For decades, Tom led major public service newsrooms and communications teams, guiding people through moments of crisis with clarity, kindness, and integrity. As Executive News Director at WBUR, News Director at NECN, and Communications Director at the MIT Energy Initiative, he translated complex information for the public and led teams with a strong commitment to fairness and accountability. Earlier in his life, his service in the Peace Corps taught him to identify community needs and take initiative, lessons that continue to shape his leadership. Colleagues describe him as kind, principled, and hard-working—values he's demonstrated by standing up for workers’ rights and creating supportive, accountable workplaces.Tom is a husband, father, grandfather, and longtime community volunteer who believes leadership means staying in close conversation with the people you represent. He plans to hold regular open office hours and build strong partnerships with cities and towns to address housing affordability, strengthen public health and healthcare access, and ensure every child feels welcome and supported in our public schools. At a moment when many people feel unheard, Tom is running to bring thoughtful, steady leadership and a deep commitment to service to the 9th Norfolk District.

I believe everyone deserves an affordable public education. As the former Board President of the Medfield Afterschool Program (MAP), and as the father of a local public school second grade teacher, I will fight for high quality classroom instruction, ambitious curricula, and multiple options available to students after graduation.
